Advanced Micro Device Named Winner of China Mobile Server Purchase

The recent 2009 server purchase of China Mobile revealed that it was Advanced Micro Device (AMD) who won the dedicated managed hosting contract as the company’s Opteron-based servers accounted for more than seventy percent of the signed deals.

The four-way and two-way systems will be given by major manufacturers such as IBM, Dell, HP and Dawning.

AMD OEM Vice President and General Manager for China Spencer Pan said that they are pleasantly surprised to know that their Opteron-based servers composed the majority share in China Mobile’s 2009 server purchase.

He added that AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture and HyperTransport technology, high performances by the Opteron processors, flexible scalability, low energy consumption, quality ratio and reasonable prices were the key factor why they’ve clinched the deal with China Mobile.

The processors were said to provide stable network among telecom markets and other system platforms.

China Mobile is considered the world’s largest mobile and wireless operator based on the number of subscribers. The company chooses the dedicated server hosting company based on stability, scalability and servers’ performance and it was AMD who has met all the criteria.

The company conducted tests to determine if Opteron-based servers meet the typical configurations that would meet the company’s operational requirements. It resulted to the system doing well in web, database and other applications that China Mobile gives priorities to.
